Resident Evil 7: Biohazard Preview

resident evil 7 biohazard preview

Introduction

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is an upcoming survival horror game developed and published by Capcom. Biohazard will be the first game of the series to feature a first-person perspective, and PlayStation 4 users can play the game from start to finish with the PS VR headset.

We first heard of Resident Evil 6 during Sony’s E3 2016 presentation, and then they released a gameplay teaser called “Resident Evil 7 Teaser: Beginning Hour” immediately after.

RE7: Biohazard is the 11th game in the main Resident Evil series, and it will launch worldwide on Jan 24th, or Jan 26th for Japan.

What is Biohazard About?

Biohazard is set in 2017 four years after the events of Resident Evil 6. The main protagonist is named Ethan and he is just a civilian with less combat skills then main characters from previous Resident Evil games. Set in the fictional town of Dulvey, Louisiana, Ethan is lead to the Baker family’s plantation mansion when searching for his missing wife, Mia.

It is confirmed that there will be a completely new cast of characters in Biohazard, but fans of the series will appreciate the few connections made to the previous games.

Gameplay

Players will take control of Ethan, who will try to survive using pistols, shotguns, explosives, chainsaws and even flamethrowers. The game isn’t going to be a “gun fest”, but they are going to feature a good variety of weapons to use.

Puzzle-solving and resource management are key gameplay mechanics in the Resident Evil series and you can expect the same with Biohazard. Healing herbs have also been confirmed. All the core gameplay mechanics are the same whether you play the game in VR or not, but it’s going to be the perfect game to play with the PlayStation VR headset.

Beginning Hour Teaser

After the game was revealed at E3 on June 14, 2016, a playable teaser called Beginning Hour was released in the PlayStaion Store for Plus subscribers. The demo has received nothing but positive feedback from the community.

Beginning Hour begins in an old house, which the main character is obviously trying to escape from. The player is able to interact with objects in his environment, with the ability to store some items in his inventory. There is even an Umbrella Corp easter egg reference in the demo.

However, Capcom did confirm that the teaser was a standalone experience and none of that content will be featured in the final game, which is going to feature a different main character and more mechanics related to combat.

The teaser was simply meant to show off the direction they are going with the game, and it seems that fans of the series are happy with what they experienced. The demo was downloaded more than 2 million times by July 2016. In September last year they released an update titled “Twilight Version” which gave players access to new rooms and items to look for.

When Capcom released that update, they also released a new trailer for RE7: Biohazard. In December, they released “Midnight Version” which added new items to find, a puzzle to solve, and the unlocking of the molded door.

On December 9th they released the demo for the Xbox One and PC users got access to it on the 19th.
