Redneck Skeet Shooting (Switch) Review

Redneck Skeet Shooting is a simple Flash-style game available on the Nintendo Switch eShop for a low price. Holding the LT to aim and the RT to shoot from a 2D perspective, gameplay is very simple and easy to play. The challenge comes from lining up a shot to hit whatever random items are thrown at the player. Shooting things will earn gold coins which are used to unlock new features. Some items require numerous hits but yield a bigger reward.  Shoot the dynamite, however, and it is instant game over (although the game next explains this). Also, the game just ends sometimes.  There is no ammo count and there is a countdown timer in the corner, but it seems like the game just ends whenever it wants to which is super weird.

Aim from the left, shoot to the right. That’s all folks.

From the hillbillie banjo music to the cartoony visuals, this download hits the redneck vibe rather well.  The only problem is the severe unbalance when it comes to unlocking anything.  When first starting, the player might earn around 30 gold during each 60 second match with some skill.  In order to unlock a new gun or stage, in which there are many, the player will need to pay anywhere from 5k-20k a pop.  This means the player will need to grind for many hours to unlock it all.  In fact, so much grinding is required, I’d bet that most players will not have the tenacity to unlock a single thing. Gameplay never changes either.  From a stationary position, aim with one trigger and shoot with the other. This flavorless gameplay has almost zero staying power.

With lacking replayability and variety, Redneck Skeet Shooting is fun for about four minutes until repetition sets in.  There are probably more entertaining free games on your phone.

Not As Good As: Duck Hunt (NES)

Also Try: those bad WiiWare motion control games (Darts, Bags, Flippy-Cup, etc)
