Dead Rising Ships 1 million, Capcom teases sequel

Capcom announced today that it as of this past holiday season, they have shipped 1 million copies of Xbox 360 title Dead Rising to retailers worldwide. The game, which sets gamers in the role of a freelance photojournalist trapped in a mall swarming with zombies, was named “Best Action Game” at the 2006 Spike Video Game Awards and “Best Original Game” on G4’s X-Play.

“The success of Dead Rising and its million sales can be attributed in part to Capcom’s early embracing of next-generation development with an emphasis on high quality that has become a Capcom trademark, along with internal reforms to facilitate Capcom’s success in the global market,” from the official Capcom press release.

On the heels of the announcement, Capcom Producer Mark Beaumont shed some light on the future of the franchise in a recent interview, stating that the company will produce Dead Rising games “for years to come.”

Beaumont called the game a testament to the company’s willingness "to take more of an experiment in what games they'll try at the start of a hardware cycle. Bringing out Dead Rising has allowed us to establish a new franchise that we can use for years to come," Beaumont added, which ought to give those Resident Evil slackers something to think about. Come on, what's happening with number five?”
