David Jaffe hints at God of War Trilogy

After going MIA for several months on his blog, David Jaffe, the creative director at Sony Santa Monica, has returned and is hinting at a third installment in the God of War series. The heralded creator and designer of the God of War series returned in his blog to give some small notes on how God of War 2 is going and to dispel rumors of leaving Sony as he recently moved from Santa Monica to San Diego.

"I will always love LA, always be drawn towards its unique energy, its obsession with media, its tendency to be at the center of all kinds of horrific news stories (shoot outs, floods, riots, earthquakes, etc). But it was time to go. Me and the wife could no longer see raising our kids in Los Angeles. We both wanted a more 'normal' life for our children and Sony was nice enough to set me up down here, in sunny SD," he stated. "I am still creative director but now deal with the folks in Santa Monica, Utah, and various other places over iChat. It really is quite an amazing process that I love and am very grateful it exists. In fact, I talk to people in Santa Monica more NOW that I am down here than I ever did when I was up in LA!"

Jaffe then goes on to give gamers what they've been fiending for, news of God of War 2 and where the franchise is going. Although GoW 2 isn't scheduled for release until Febuary 2007, Jaffe believes that the story of Kratos is still unfinished.

"I CAN tell you that God of War 2 is shaping up very, very nicely. I played a bunch of levels last week and it's really, really fun. The art and music is much better than the first game and there is some damn fine level design going on in the new game. As [GoW 2 director] Cory [Barlog] and I have said to the press, this is the second act of a bigger story. And when you are making a game, you never really know if the game will turn out good enough to merit another one in the series. But after last week, I can say I am very confident of our chances to be able to complete the GOD OF WAR trilogy. You never know, but that's me just putting it out there," he concluded.
