Craft The World Review

Craft The World is a 2-D fast paced sandbox game that lets you travel through worlds with your army of battle hungry dwarfs. All under your ruthless leadership. Have we come across another award winning, jaw dropping sandbox game? Lets find out!

This game created by Black Maple Games is based set in a medieval theme where  your lone dwarf is travelling through a self generating world  trying to obtain the necessary resources to survive. Throughout your travels you are given various objectives that upon completion grant you experience. Levelling up increases the number of dwarfs you command, which can drastically strengthens your army. Each dwarf can be specifically trained a certain skill: exploration, gathering or crafting.

The atmosphere of this game initially reminds you of Dungeon Keeper, Terraria and Dwarf Fortress. The game is designed to never let you know what you will do next. The possibilities are essentially endless when playing. Even while completing missions you have to figure out what you are going to build first to assist you and when you are going to build it. Your primary goals are to first are to gather materials and build a base to protect your stash. Once this is complete you can expand your camp and eventually begin to explore the worlds depths and secrets. If successful, you will discover methods to reach next worlds and expand your dwarf empire.

The overall simplicity of the game adheres to the addiction aspect. Simplicity in game development can be key to a great time. Take Minecraft or Flappy Bird for example. The first level alone being the introduction to the game takes over 10 hours alone! Now you may think that is extremely long? The enjoyment experienced throughout the level makes those 10 hours go by in a heartbeat. One significant advantage of the gameplay itself is the widespread use for all items. It’s amazing to see raw materials like dirt and sand have such a plentiful presence in future building. You would assume the 2-D aspect would ruin the game, however it actually does the opposite and ads a fun retro feel to the gameplay.

With every new game there are the bugs. Upon release, the game encountered several major and minor bugs. These bugs ranged from spawning errors to constant crashing of the client.  Some reports even stated the overall “Stupidity” of the dwarfs. Many gamers were frustrated with the dwarfs incompetence as they apparently were “Dumb and often killed themselves, which brought down my experience”. Food drops were also a major issue upon release as they were sometimes glitching out, dropping what seemed like an unlimited supply of resources. Several patches have been released which have successfully fixed any issues pertaining to glitches. The developers take obvious pride in their game with what seems like weekly updates.

Regardless of the bugs, Craft The Wild is still an addicting, amusing and overall fun sandbox game that is constantly growing it’s community on a daily basis. The current price for the game is $20.00USD which is reasonable for the almost endless gameplay that comes with your purchase. Level and playing experience don’t matter in this game as there will always be a new mission along with a new world to conquer.
